LADY LIONS CLAWS PHILANDER SMITH, 76-62

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Nov. 20) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball Team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Philander Smith College, 76-62 here Thursday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

In a contest where the Lady Lions never trailed, UAPB opened the first stanza with a 7-2lead capped off by a Charisse Carr free throw with 15:45 left in the first.
The Lady Panthers cut the Lady Lions' lead to 17-13 on a Jerrica Scott layup with 9:42 to go in half.

UAPB extended their lead with a 7-0 run on back-to-back-to-back field goals by Makayla Wormley, Shami Goodman, and Ajia Richardson, giving the Lady Lions a 24-13 lead with 8:11 left.

PSC closed out the first half with a 10-5 run as UAPB went into the break with a 37-31 lead at the half.

The Lady Lions finished the first half shooting 44.4 percent (16-of-36) from the field, whereas the Lady Panthers shot 25.6 percent (10-of-39).

UAPB opened the second half with a 7-2 run as they made they went three for five in the first four minutes of the half, giving the Lady Lions a 44-33 lead at the 17:23 mark.
PSC used a 7-0 run to cut UAPB's lead to 44-40 with 15:17 left in the half, capped off by a pair of Scott free throws.

But the Lady Lions answered with a  19-6 run to take a 63-46 lead with 8:47  to on a pair of Richardson free throws as UAPB went on to win the contest 76-62.
UAPB finished the game shooting 42.9 percent (30-of-70), while PSC shot 26.8 percent (22-of-82).

PSC (3-2) had three Lady Panthers to finish in double-digit scoring with Caryan Jones scoring a team high 19 points, followed by Juquecia Chaney with 13 and Scott with 11.  Jasmine Secrest led the Lady Panthers on the boards with seven.

UAPB (1-2) also had three players to score in double-figures with both Carlisha Walker and Jazmyne Victorian finishing with a double-double as Walker finished the contest with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Victorian with 12 points and 15 rebounds.  Rounding out the cast of double-digit performers is Goodman with 13 points and Attirah Munir with 10 rebounds.

The Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday, November 22 as they will host Talladega College at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in a 7 p.m. start.
