Shami Goodman scored a team high 12 points from off the bench as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball team dropped an 89-52 contest to Xavier University, here Monday night at the Cintas Center.
Charisse Carr was the only other Lady Lion to finish the contest in double-figures as she finished the contest with 11 points. Goodman also led the team in rebound with five.
A Carr layup with 14:09 go in the first cut the Musketeers' lead to 10-8. Â The Lady Lions once again cut the cut Xavier's lead to two points on a
Destiny Brewton jumper with 9:05 left in the first.
Xavier ended the first half with a 9-5 run as the Lady Lions went into the break trailing Xavier, 34-26.
UAPB (0-2) finished the first half shooting 37.5 percent (12-of-32), whereas Xavier shot 37.9 percent (11-of-29).
The Musketeers opened the second half with a 9-4 run to take a 45-30 break with 16:55 left in in the second.
UAPB used a 6-0 run to cut Xavier's lead to 45-36 on a field goal by
Carlisha Walker and back-to-to back layups by Carr with 15:17 left in the half.
The Lady Lions finished the game shooting 33.9 percent (21-of-62), while Xavier shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58).
Xavier (2-0) had five Musketeers to finish in double-figures with Lead Schaefer scoring a team high 13 points, followed by Briana Glover with 12 and Maleeka Kynard with 11, while both Marquia Turner and Rashaun Gaffney finished with 10 apiece for the Musketeers. Schaefer led the team on the board with seven.
UAPB will return to action on Thursday, November 20 as they will host Philander Smith in their home opener at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in a 6 p.m. start.
