Box Score CINCINNATI, OHIO (Nov. 15) - In their season opener, the University of Arkansas at Pine Women's Basketball team dropped a 73-57 decision to the University of Cincinnati, here Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.
In a hard fought first half, the Lady Lions took a 10-9 lead on a
Jazmyne Victorian layup with 13:30 to go in the first half, capping a 10-5 run by UAPB.
UC responded with a 7-0 run to take a 16-10 lead, capped off by a Brandey Tarver layup with 9:57 left in the first.
UAPB tied the contest at 17-17 with a 7-1 run of their own on a
Destiny Ham layup with 7:53 to go.
The Lady Lions tied the contest two more time in the half at 21-21 at the 5:02 mark and again at 25-25 at the 4:12 mark as UC went into the break 33-29.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 39.4 percent (13-of-33), whereas UC shot 30.0 percent (9-of-30).
The Bearcats opened up the second half with a 15-8 run as they took a 48-37 lead on Jasmine Whitfield with 10:48 left in the game.
Cincinnati extended their lead to 57-42 with 5:45 left in the game, capped off by a Shelbi Chandler field goal.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 34.8 percent (24-of-69), while the Bearcats shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61).
Destiny Brewton and
Charisse Carr both finished in double figures to lead the Lady Lions with Brewton leading the team with 11 , followed by Carr with 10. Victorian led the Lady Lions on the boards with eight and tallied three blocks in the contest.
Cincinnati was paced by Whitfield with 24 points, followed by a Marley Hill with 21 points and 18 rebounds and Makenzie Cann with 11. Ana Owens led the team in assists with seven.
With the win, Cincinnati goes to 1-0 on the season, while UAPB drops to 0-1.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Monday, November 17 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio in a 7 p.m. start.
