PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Oct. 27) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Volleyball Team picked up their third Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season as they defeated Southern University, 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-19) here Monday afternoon at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB (6-16, 3-1 SWAC) had a pair of Lady Lions to finish in double-digit kills as both
Lauren Corby and
Kayla Dowdell finished with 11 kills each, followed by
Ashlie Jones with nine.
Jordan Foyer led the Lady Lions in assists with 37, whereas
Courtney Brand led the team in digs with 11.
SU (8-12, 3-3 SWAC) was paced by Melodie Malone with eight kills, followed by Marisol Macias and Chinasa Ekweariri with six kills each. Phalen Clark recorded assists in the contest, while Diamond Williams led the team in digs with 15.
In the first set, SU took a 14-11 lead on an UAPB attack error. The Lady Lions tied the set at 17-17 on a kill by Jones. UAPB took advantage of two SU attack error to take a 19-17 lead as the Lady Lions went on to win the set 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
SU grabbed an 18-13 lead in the second set on an UAPB service error. Then the Lady Lions used an 8-3 run to tie the set at 21-21. A Foyer service ace gave the Lady Lions a 24-22 lead in the set. SU tied the set at 24-24 on a Carr kill and a Lady Lion attack error. UAPB took a 26-25 lead on a Dowdell kill and won set 27-25 on a SU attack error, giving the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, UAPB never trailed as the opened the set with a 10-4 lead. SU cut UAPB's lead to 19-16 with a 12-9, but that would be as close as the Jaguars would get as UAPB won the set 25-19 for the 3-0 win over the Jaguars.
