Box Score Greenwood, MS. - Chistina Lasane and
Jazmyne Victorian scored a team-high 13 points each but the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (1-10, 0-1) fell short, 60-49, and suffered its first loss of the season in its SWAC opener to Mississippi Valley (2-10, 1-0) inside the Civic Center in Greenwood Mississippi Saturday evening.
The Lady Devilettes scored the first basket of the game with a foul by
Mollie Campbell, sending Jasmyne Sanders to line to hit two free throws to make the score 2-0. The Lady Lions answered back with two quick buckets to take the lead 4-2 in the 14:45 mark.
The Lions held their largest margin leading 10-6 before the Devilettes went on a 8-0 run to take the lead for good before going into the locker room with a 28-18 halftime lead.
In the opening of the second half, UAPB made the first blow with
Christina Lasane scoring the first point in the paint, after being down by much as 15 points. The Lions continued to battle back exchanging baskets after baskets cutting the lead down as low as seven points with 2:55 left at the half.
UAPB was out rebounded 37-33, but that wasn't the only factor on deciding the game, the team only scored 6 second chance points to Valley 13.
The Lions shot 18-for-43(41.9%) from the field, 1-for-10 (10.0%) from the three point line, and 12-for-20 (60%) from the free throw line.
For Mississippi Valley, three Lady Delvilettes registered double-figured points led by Joncyee Sanders tallying 15 points, while Olivia Kennedy and Jasmyne Sanders each had 12 points.
