Box Score Huntsville, Al.- The saying "you live by the three; you die by the three", Alabama A&M survived Saturday night by the three, defeating the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Lady Lions 87-63 on the first of a two game road trip at the T.M Elmore Arena in Huntsville, Alabama.
Alabama A&M (3-10, 1-2 SWAC) shot lights out overall in the game from the three point line, 11-for-14 (78.6%) giving the Bulldogs a much more needed victory over the Lady Lions.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped on the board first with a bucket by Ebony Johnson to take a 2-0 lead, UAPB fired back with a three pointer from
Cassidy Wright to give the Lions the lead 3-2. The Bulldogs jump to a 6-0 run in the 17:45 mark to take an 8-3 lead, the Lady Lions battle back also countering with a basket keeping the score within three, 8-5.
However, two consecutive Bulldogs scoring possessions push the lead on and giving the Bulldogs a comfortable lead going into the break 50-29.
UAPB (1-11, 0-2 SWAC) made some big adjustments coming out the locker room, shooting a lot better in the second half from the field 11-for-14 (78.6%), compared to 11-for-34(32.4%) in the first.
The biggest deciding factor of the game was A&M 3point shooting percentage in the first half 81.8%. UAPB kept fighting forcing A&M to commit 16 turnovers in the game, cutting the lead down to 12 points after being down by many as 23 points.
Alyssa Strickland led the way for Alabama A&M with 26 points connecting on (6 three pointers), followed by Jasmine Sanders with 15 points and Brittney Strickland with 14 points.
For the game the Lady Bulldogs shot 29-for-49 (59.2%) from the field, 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the three point, and 13-for-16 (81.3%) from the charity stripes.
UAPB Christine Lasane scored her career-high 21 points, while
Cassidy Wright added 18 points and
Jazmyne Victorian chipped in eight points.
Coming off a tough loss the Lady Lions ended shooting 2-for-48 (45.8%), 6-for-12 (50%) from the three point line and 12-for-18 from the free point line.
UAPB returns to Southwestern Conference action on Monday January 13, when they will travel to Montgomery, Alabama to face the Lady Hornets of Alabama State at 5:30p.m.
