GRAMBLING, La. -- Despite a season-high 13 kills by Ashlie Jones, the Arkansas-Pine Bluff volleyball team dropped their sixth straight match on Wednesday, falling to Grambling 3-0 in the Southwestern Conference opener for both teams.

Jones had 13 kills and nine errors in 32 attack attempts. She also had three aces and three digs. Courtney Brand led the defense with 14 digs, while Jordan Foyer had 26 assists.

The match lasted two and a half hours as the teams battled for three close sets. Grambling won the first set 26-24 after trailing 2-0 early. The second set was a see-saw affair until late when GSU broke a 21-21 tie and score the last four points to take a 2-0 match lead.

The Lady Tigers continued their streak into the final set, scoring the first five points. However, UAPB rallied to tie the set with five straight points of their own. The Lady Lions would eventually build a 15-9 advantage, before GSU scored seven of the next eight points to tie the set at 16-all.

Again the set was tied at 21 when an attack error by UAPB and a kill by Asia Drenon put the Lady Tigers up 23-21. The two teams exchanged points, then a kill by Audrey Sherles kept the match alive for UAPB at 24-23. But, a service error by Sherles clinched the match for GSU, ending the set at 25-23.

Still seeking their first win of the 2013 season, UAPB heads to Conway to compete in the UCA-Sears Sugar Bear Invitational. The Lady Lions face host Central Arkansas on Thursday night (7 p.m.). On Friday, UAPB takes on Texas-Pan American (12 p.m.) and Louisiana-Monroe (4 p.m.), then, caps off a busy week against Jackson State on Saturday morning (10 a.m.).
