PINE BLUFF -- Junior outside hitter Ashlie Jones had 10 kills, sophomore hitter Ayanna Parker added nine and three others finished with eight as the Lady Lions beat Mississippi Valley State 25-22, 25-21, 25-16 on Monday night. UAPB improved to 4-13 in the non-conference match, while MVSU fell to 3-11.

Jones had a hitting percentage of .286 after having only four errors in 21 attempts. She also had a block and four digs. Parker had only two errors in 25 attempts and hit .280 for the match. She was also tough on defense, piling up 10 digs. In addition, Parker had two aces and two blocks.

Whitney Harris, Courtney Billups and Audrey Sherles had eight kills apiece. Jordan Foyer finished with 39 assists and nine digs, while Courtney Brand was the defensive leader with 24 digs.

Halee Clark led MVSU with 10 kills. Alexandra Garland added 21 assists and Halee Clark 12 digs.

The Lady Lions will add more frequent traveler miles this weekend as they head to Illinois to compete in the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Tournament. The Lady Lions play against Georgia State on Friday at 4 p.m.. Then on Saturday, UAPB faces SIUE at 1 p.m. and Depaul at 4:30 p.m.
