Fort Worth, Tex. - In the opening game of the 2013 SWAC Baseball tournament at the historic LaGrave Field, the west second seeded University of Arkansas of Pine Bluff Golden Lions was matched-up against the east third seeded Alcorn State University Braves. The Braves advanced in the winner's bracket to the tune of 11-8.

UAPB got on the score board first with three runs in the second, when Mike Wieland, Dylan Calhoun and Dwayne Hysmith all came in to plate runs for the Golden Lions. UAPB would add three more runs in the next frame as Patrick Phillips, Wieland and Calhoun pushed the Golden Lions run total to six for a 6-0 score after three.

In the fourth, Alcorn got their first run as Chris Hickman came around to score. The Golden Lions added two more runs in their half of the fifth to make it an 8-4 ballgame. The Braves scored three runs in top half of the fifth that would prove to be the start of their comeback.

The Braves would shut out the Golden Lions through the last four innings, but added their run total by adding three in the seventh and through an unusual turn of events added four more in the eight that would give the game its final, 11-8.

Hysmith was the man at the plate going 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and two runs scored. Calhoun also had a hot bat going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Andrew Buehler suffered the loss for the Golden Lions.

Now having to battle back out of the loser's bracket the Golden Lions will face the loser of the Jackson State/ Texas Southern match up tomorrow at 9 AM.
