Golden Lions Double-Up Tigers

Pine Bluff, Ark.- In game one of a SWAC western division weekend series against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and the Texas Southern University Tigers, in comeback fashion, the Golden Lions won 7-6 and was able to take game two by a score of 10-5.

In the first game, TSU took an early 2-0 lead after two; but the Golden Lions would answer back with runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 5-3 lead. After three TSU runs in the seventh, the Golden Lions would rally back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth for the 7-6 victory.

Tyler Oertle was the man at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. The Golden Lions managed nine hits as a team. Despite outhitting UAPB by two hits with 11, the Tigers couldn't hold on down the stretch.

Stanten Jones was credited with his third win of season; while Michael Starkey suffered the loss.

In the second half of the double dip, the smoking hot bats of the Golden Lions continued as UAPB converted 14 hits into 10 runs. UAPB posted runs in every frame but three, as they were able to hold off a late charge by the Tigers for today's 10-5 final.

Dylan Calhoun did a job at the plate for the Golden Lions in game two, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Kirby Campbell went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Mikey Ramirez was credited with his third victory and TSU's Robert Pearson suffered his fourth loss of the season.

“Great come from behind victory today, the guy's perseverance paid off. We got off to a slow start in game one but used the energy from it to take game two”, said head coach Carlos James. “It was a complete team effort today with pitching, defense and timely hitting. We have to bring the same intensity tomorrow and send our seniors out on a positive note.”  

Tomorrow's wrap-up match is set for 1PM; this will also be Senior Day for the Golden Lions as a pregame ceremony is set just before the first pitch.
