Memphis, Tenn.- the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff managed nine hits that turned into five runs, but they coudln't rally back in the innings falling 7-5 to the University of Memphis Tigers Tuesday evening at FedEx Park.
Memphis got took an early 6-0 lead after four innings, but the Golden Lions would answer back with two runs in the sixth inning when
Dwayne Hysmith singled to bring home
Kirby Campbell and
Isias Alcantar.
UAPB registered two runs in the seventh inning, when Alcantar blasted a two run shot scoring Cody De Mera for a 4-6 score. The Golden Lions crossed the plate once more in the eighth, as
Tyler Oertle doubled down the right field line that brought Hysmith around for run number five.
The Tigers would add one more run in their half of the eighth to push the lead up by two runs. The Golden Lions threatened to tie the ballgame, with runners in scoring position, but would be turned away as Memphis held on for the victory.
Both clubs will meet again today for nine innings at FedEx Park. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM.
