Oxford, MS- In baseball action today, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions traveled to the University of Mississippi for nine innings of play against the #8 ranked Rebels. Ole Miss trumped the Golden Lions to the tune of 7-2.
Both teams went the first two innings scoreless, despite having two hits apiece. In the third inning, Ole Miss would cross the plate first as Tanner Mathis, who reached base on a single up the middle, scored the game's first run on an Austin Anderson triple. The Rebels reached home plate three more times before the close of the third inning; as Auston Bousfield would single to drive in Anderson. The very next batter Stuart Turner homered to drive in the game's third and fourth runs.
The Golden Lions scattered two hits over the next five innings, as the Rebels were able to manufacture three more runs between the sixth and seventh innings, for a 7-0 score after eight innings of play.
UAPB had their best showing at the plate, during the top half of the ninth inning, as
Mike Ludwig doubled to right field.
Isias Alcantar would double behind Ludwig to drive him home for the Golden Lions first run of the evening.
Warren Stehn reached on base on a double, advancing Alcantar to third, at which point the next Golden Lion batter would strike out.
Cody De Mera would single to left center for the UAPB's seventh hit of the day and driving in Alcantar for the Golden Lions second run of ball game. A double play ball hit by the following batter would end the Golden Lions late inning charge for this evenings final.

Stanten Jones took the loss, as he scatter six hits resulting in four runs over three innings of work. Brady Bramlett would get credited with the victory for the Rebels.
The Golden Lions return home this weekend to open SWAC conference play as they host the Jaguars of Southern University in double header on Saturday and wrapping up the weekend series with one game on Sunday. The first pitch for Saturday's contest is slated for 12 PM.
