IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Lady Lions struggled from the field, shooting only 20% in a 76-38 loss to the University of Iowa on Wednesday night. UAPB fell to 1-2 with the loss, while the Hawkeyes of the Big Ten remained undefeated at 3-0.
The Lady Lions hit only 13-of-63 fieldgoals and shot only 42.9% from the line (9-of-21). In the first half, UAPB shot a frosty 7-of-33 (21.2%) from the field. On the flip side, Iowa shot 51.4%, knocking down 18-of-35 fieldgoals, building a 49-18 halftime lead.
The Hawkeyes cooled to 31% (11-for-35) in the second half, but UAPB remained cold, shooting only 20% (6-for-30). The second half was closer, but the mountain was too high to climb.
Christina Lasane had nine points and seven rebounds to lead UAPB. Carlisha Walker had 11 rebounds.
Bethany Doolittle and Melissa Dixon each had 17 points to pace Iowa. Ally Disterhoft added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Claire Till grabbed 12 rebounds.
Next up for the Lady Lions is a trip to Cincinnati and a date with Xavier University on Sunday afternoon. Tip time is 2 p.m.
