PINE BLUFF -- Ashlie Jones had 12 kills and Jordan Foyer piled up 41 assists as UAPB beat Prairie View A&M 3-1 on Monday night. The win was the first of the season for the Lady Lions who improved to 1-2 in the SWAC and 7-17 overall. Meanwhile, PVAM slipped to 6-18 and 1-2 in the SWAC. UAPB has now won three of its last four matches.

In addition to Jones and Foyer's double-diget performances, Courtney Brand and Ayanna Parker finished with 15 and 14 digs respectively.

Candyce Alexander led PVAM with a match-high 15 kills, while Janette Batiste added 11 and Charae Caldwell 10.

The match was very tight with PVAM earning only one more kill as a team than UAPB. The Lady Panthers had 50 kills to 49 for the Lady Lions.

Each set was highly competitive as well. In the opening set, UAPB led most of the way with the exception midway through as PVAM led 11-10 and 12-11. But, UAPB scored seven unanswered points to take a 18-12 lead. PVAM rallied to within a point at 24-23, but Foyer finished the set with a kill, leading the Lady Lions to a 25-23 win.

The Lady Lions also won the second set, coming from behind after trailing late. PVAM led 22-21, but UAPB scored three straight points to take a 24-22 lead. The Lady Panthers trimmed the lead to 24-23, but Audrey Sherles put the set away with a kill as UAPB took a 2-0 match lead.

PVAM keep the match alive with a 25-21 win in the third set, but UAPB clinched the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.

On Thursday night, UAPB travels to Arkadelphia to play Henderson State in a non-conference match.
