ITTA BENA -- It took five tough sets, but the UAPB volleyball team came from behind to beat Mississippi Valley State 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Lions improved to 6-17, while MVSU fell to 7-14.

Whitney Harris had 16 kills and three blocks to lead UAPB. Ayanna Parker added 15 kills and 13 digs, while Ashlie Jones finished with 14 kills, four aces and nine digs for UAPB. Setter Jordan Foyer rolled up a season-high 54 assists and added eight digs.

Halee Clark led MVSU with 17 kills. Athena Abary had 29 assists and Alexandria Garland tallied 15 digs to go with 20 assists.

UAPB took a 1-0 lead by winning the first set 25-19. However, MvSU came back to win a pair a long sets 28-26 and 27-25. The Lady Lions kept the match alive by winning the fourth set 25-18.

In the final set, UAPB rolled out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back. The Lady Lions led by as much as eight twice (13-5 and 14-6) before closing out the match.

The Lady Lions return home on Tuesday to host Prairie View.
