PINE BLUFF -- Decked out in pink to support breast cancer awareness on Think Pink Night, the UAPB volleyball team knocked off Henderson State 3-1 on Thursday night. The win avenged a 5-set loss to the Lady Reddies just two weeks ago for the Lady Lions, who improved to 9-19.
Ashlie Jones had 12 kills and a jaw-dropping 12 service aces to lead UAPB. She also had seven digs. Jordan Foyer added 36 assists and eight digs, while Courtney Brand tallied 23 digs on defense. Ayanna Parker also had double-digit digs with 11. She also had four blocks.
Katrina Goulbourne led HSU with 12 kills. Taylor Thompson finished with 23 assists and Raegan Large led the defense with 14 digs.
The Lady Lions came out roaring, winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-21. However, HSU rallied to take the third set 25-23. But, the Lady Lions got back on track in the fourth set, blowing past the Lady Reddies 25-9.
Four of the final five regular season matches will be Southwestern Athletic Conference contests. The first of those matches will be on the home floor against Grambling State on Tuesday night. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Then, next Thursday and Friday, the Lady Lions visit Prairie View and Texas Southern. On Monday, November 4, the Lady Lions return home to face Southern in the final SWAC regular season match. A week later on November 11, UAPB caps the regular season against Arkansas-Monticello on Senior Night.
