ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The Lady Lions won the first two sets, but couldn't hold on in a five-set loss to Henderson State on Thursday night. UAPB slipped to 7-18 with the setback, while HSU improved to 2-13.

The loss spoiled a spectacular evening for Ashlie Jones who had 22 kills and 11 digs. Whitney Harris added 15 kills, while Ayanna Parker finished with 14 kills, 17 digs and six blocks. Courtney Brand was tops on defense with 19 digs, while Jordan Foyer had 54 assists and 12 digs.

UAPB won the opening set 26-24, then dominated the second set 25-15. But, HSU rallied to win the final three consecutive matches 25-23 twice, then 15-10 in the match clincher.

The statistics from the match did not match the final score. The Lady Lions dominated in nearly every area, out-hitting HSU 65-49, having 20 more attack attempts (174-154) and tallying 58 assists to 46 for the Reddies.

Jessica Moss and Katrina Goulbourne each had 13 kills for the Lady Reddies. Taylor Thompson had 44 assists, while on defense Cheyenne Derr had 16 digs, Raegan Large tallied 15 digs and Lindsey Calabrese had 13.

The Lady Lions return to Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Monday when they visit Southern University.
