Box Score Jackson, MS- In SWAC action at the Lee Williams AAC, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions took on the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University to wrap up the first half of conference play.
Both teams got off to a cold start, Chigozianyi Okwumbua started the scoring off the Lady Lions by getting the first four points of the contest. That would start UAPB with their first lead of the game; Jackson State would battle back to take the lead at the 11: 56 mark and would not look back as they were able to come away the victory 70-59.
The Lady Lions couldn't match the outside shooting of the Lady Tigers and struggled from the free throw line as they shot 19-31 on the evening.
“We had good execution but too many missed free throws against a good team on the road prove to be the difference for us tonight. Jackson State is good ball club, we just have to take care of our business”, said head coach
Nate Kilbert.
Okwumbua led all scorers with 22 points, on nine-of-fourteen shooting and she also connected on four out of five free throws.
Lakendra Marsh added 18 points, respectively.
Tiffany Kellum led the charge for the Lady Tigers with 14 points, while Beatrice Banks chipped in 11.
The lady Lions are on the road next weekend as they travel to Alabama to face Alabama State on Saturday, February 2
nd and Alabama A&M Monday February 4
th.
