UAPB's Ben Anderson Named SWAC Freshman of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its All-SWAC football teams for the 2011 season on Tuesday.

Jackson State quarterback Casey Therriault was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Grambling linebacker Cliff Exama and Prairie View A&M defensive end Adrian Hamilton shared the Defensive Player of the Year honors.  Jackson State defensive end Joseph LeBeau earned Newcomer of the Year, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback Benjamin Anderson was named Freshman of the Year.

“We're extremely happy for Ben and he is very deserving of this award,” said UAPB head coach Monte Coleman. “Ben showed a lot of improvement and growth throughout the season and he got better with each game. His play had a huge impact for us offensively this season.”

Anderson led the Golden Lions to a winning season and was third in the conference with 1,876 passing yards to go with 10 touchdowns.
