Team Black Wins Fall World Series

PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Game Three of the Black and Gold Fall World Series saw Team Gold put together a dominating performance winning by a score of 9-2.
 
Team Gold jumped out to a quick 3-0 led when Sean Samsa lead-off the bottom of the first with a triple. Samsa would later score on James Boulware's RBI-single. Starting pitcher Tyler Hill would draw a base-on-balls then score on Jake Whitney's single which was misplayed in the outfield. Whitney would later score on Cornelius Williams' RBI-groundout.
 
Team Black would add a run in the top of the third as Soloman Williams would single and score on Christian Weeber's RBI-triple to right field. With the score 3-1, Team Gold would take advantage of three hits, two walks, and hit batter by adding six runs and extending their lead to 9-1.
 
Team Black would score their second run of the game in the top of fourth as Sherman Thomas would be a hit-by-a-pitch, steal second, then score on Colt Harmon's RBI-single.

"Tyler Hill had excellent command and kept Team Black's hitters off-balance," noted Team Gold Coach Nick Steponovich. "Offensively, we were aggressive and capitalized."
 
After taking Game Three, Team Gold tied the series at 1-1-1. Therefore, Game Four followed twenty-five minutes later with the winning team taking home the coveted "Boom-Boom" stick.
 
In a Championship Game that saw twenty-one total runs scored, Team Black would capture the Fall World Series title winning by a score of 13-8.
 
Both teams would score in the first inning with Team Black taking a 5-2 lead. In the second inning, Team Black would add two more runs to go up 7-2, but Team Gold would answer with three runs of their own highlighted by Whitney's 3-run home run.
 
With the score 7-5, Team Gold would cut the lead to 7-6 before Team Black would add six additional runs. With the score 13-6, Team Gold didn't go down without a fight as they would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The score would remain 13-8 with Team Black posing with the "Boom-Boom" stick in the end.
 
"Both teams fought hard all day," shared Team Black Coach Jon Tatum. "My guys battled and their execution allowed them to bring home the 'Boom-Boom' stick."
 
With today's final two games of the Black and Gold World Series, fall practice officially comes to an end and transitions to the next phase of the Golden Lions preparation.
 
"I was very pleased with the progress we made throughout the fall," said Head Coach Carlos James. "We were essentially a brand new team stepping on the field, and each player was put in a position to not only showcase his skills but also learn. With fall practice closing out with a competitive World Series, the coaching staff and I have a thorough evaluation of our team and can move forward in our continued preparation for the spring season." 
 
The Golden Lions open up the 2012 season at UALR on Friday, February 17, 2012.
