Michael Bumpers joined the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) softball program as Interim Head Coach in the summer of 2018, and the interim tag was officially removed in July 2019. Since taking over the program, he has coached multiple All-SWAC performers, including a SWAC Freshman of the Year honoree.

Prior to leading the softball program, Bumpers served as the Head Baseball Coach at UAPB from 2008–2010, following a decade-long tenure as an assistant baseball coach from 1997–2007. During his time as head baseball coach, he developed numerous All-SWAC selections, including SWAC Pitcher of the Year Justin Moring and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Matt Pace.

Bumpers has also coached extensively at the elite youth level with the Arkansas Worth Softball and Rawlings Prospects Baseball organizations, where he contributed to multiple national and state championships.

After the 2010 baseball season, Bumpers transitioned into athletic administration at UAPB, bringing his leadership, coaching experience, and student-athlete development expertise into departmental operations.

A proud Army Combat Veteran, Bumpers served with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment during Operation Enduring Freedom (2003–2004) under the 489th Engineering Battalion (Bravo Company).

He holds a B.S. in Sociology from UAPB and an M.S. in Sports Administration from American Military University. As a student-athlete, Bumpers played both football and baseball at the University of Arkansas (1990–93) before competing professionally in baseball for five years.

Bumpers is married to Tiffany Bumpers, and together they have two children, Desiree and Elliott.

He is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration.
