Roger "The Legend" Totten

Roger "The Legend" Totten brings more than 30 years of athletic administration, coaching, and student-athlete development experience to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. In May 2021, Totten was promoted to Deputy Athletics Director, where he oversees internal operations, compliance, and academic services for the UAPB Athletics Department. His extensive experience in athletic administration includes student-athlete academic success, NCAA compliance, fundraising, and departmental leadership.

Totten has served as an assistant professor in the departments of physical education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Alabama State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Alcorn State University, Tuskegee University, and Grambling State University. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong commitment to developing student-athletes spiritually, mentally, and physically, preparing them to become productive leaders both on and off the field.

Hired as Head Coach of the UAPB Men's Golf program in 2017, Totten has transformed the Golden Lions into one of the premier HBCU golf programs in the nation and a perennial championship contender within the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

During the 2018-19 season, Totten orchestrated one of the greatest turnarounds in program history, leading the Golden Lions to a 100-stroke improvement at the SWAC Championship Tournament, earning his first SWAC Coach of the Year honors. Since then, he has continued to elevate the program, producing multiple All-SWAC performers while emphasizing academic excellence. The men's golf team recorded the highest GPA among UAPB Athletics Department teams during the 2021 and 2022 academic years, reflecting Totten's commitment to success in the classroom as well as on the course.

The Golden Lions earned invitations to the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in both 2021 (Jacksonville, Florida) and 2022 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), signaling the program's emergence on the national stage.

In 2023, Totten guided UAPB to its first Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship in school history. The Golden Lions won four of their final six tournaments, captured the SWAC title by a record 29 strokes, and earned the program's first-ever berth into the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional.

The Golden Lions followed that historic season by repeating as SWAC Champions in 2024 while advancing to their second consecutive NCAA Regional. Totten was once again recognized as SWAC Coach of the Year, continuing one of the most dominant coaching runs in conference history.

In 2025, UAPB captured the prestigious PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship HBCU National Championship, further cementing the Golden Lions' national reputation and establishing what many around the program now refer to as a dynasty era in UAPB Men's Golf. The national championship propelled the Golden Lions to recognition as the No. 1 HBCU Men's Golf Program in the nation, highlighting another remarkable season that elevated UAPB among the country's elite collegiate golf programs.

Following that historic championship season, the Golden Lions continued their dominance in 2026 by capturing their third SWAC Championship in four years while earning the program's third NCAA Regional appearance in four seasons. Under Totten's leadership, UAPB has become one of the most respected HBCU golf programs in the country through sustained championship success, national recognition, and academic excellence.

A six-time SWAC Coach of the Year, Totten has built a championship culture defined by competitive excellence, academic achievement, and servant leadership. His impact has transformed UAPB Men's Golf into a nationally recognized program while mentoring student-athletes who excel both on the course and in the classroom.

Before his success in administration and golf, Totten enjoyed an accomplished football coaching career, serving as an Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at several institutions. During that time, he coached 16 student-athletes who went on to play in the National Football League.
