No stranger to UAPB and the community of Pine Bluff, Cameo Stokes leads the Strategic Communications Department, serving all 14 Golden Lions athletic programs. A key member of the athletics senior leadership team, Stokes currently serves as the primary media contact for football, softball, men’s basketball, and golf.
Stokes has spent more than a decade shaping the visibility, branding, and storytelling of UAPB Athletics. He previously served over 10 years as Assistant Director of Strategic Communications, where he acted as the primary communications contact for men’s and women’s tennis, track & field, cross country, soccer, softball, and volleyball, while also serving as the secondary contact for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and assisting with coverage for baseball. His performance in this role led to his elevation to Associate Athletic Director, where he took on expanded responsibilities essential to the department’s day-to-day operations.
Throughout his tenure, Stokes has played a pivotal role in strengthening UAPB Athletics’ presence throughout Jefferson County, the state of Arkansas, and the university’s national alumni base. He expanded the department’s digital footprint through strategic social media enhancements, the creation of multimedia initiatives such as Golden Lions Spotlight, and the modernization of the UAPB Athletics mobile app. He was also instrumental in the launch and redevelopment of the official athletics website.
In the fall of 2019, Stokes played a significant role in elevating UAPB’s digital presence. In its first year of launch, the official athletics website uapblionsroar.com experienced a 55 percent increase in users and surpassed 2.2 million page views. Through the creation of the Golden Lion Sports Network, he expanded media reach by establishing radio partnerships in Central Arkansas, enabling football broadcasts in both Pine Bluff and Little Rock, while also extending men’s and women’s basketball radio coverage and online streaming. The Lions Roar All Access coaches show aired on radio in Pine Bluff, with its television edition reaching 18 states through a partnership with Cox Sports Television.
In his current leadership role, Stokes oversees the full spectrum of communications, marketing, and promotions, including the continued expansion of the Golden Lion Sports Network and assisting in the development of corporate sponsorship opportunities. His responsibilities include producing press releases, game previews and recaps, managing media relations, designing promotional content and scheduling graphics, and directing all game-day communications operations. He also supervises live stats, streaming, and media coverage for every UAPB athletic competition.
Among his most notable achievements, Stokes led the year-long national promotional campaign for offensive lineman Terron Armstead, who became the highest NFL Draft selection in school history when the New Orleans Saints selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He also played a key role in elevating the national visibility of former Golden Lion punter Jamie Gillan, who set multiple records at UAPB before signing with the Cleveland Browns and later joining the New York Giants.
Beyond UAPB, Stokes has worked with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), supporting operations and communications for the prestigious Top 100 Camp, one of the nation’s premier developmental and evaluation events for elite high school basketball prospects.
A graduate of Arkansas Baptist College, Stokes remains deeply committed to community service across Jefferson and Pulaski counties. He has served as President of the Sr. Babe Ruth Baseball Board, is an active committee member for the Jefferson County Youth Football League, and mentors young men through the Little Rock Kappa League Mentoree Program.
Stokes holds professional memberships in College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the Black College Sports Information Directors of America (BCSIDA). He is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
