Ashley Brown is entering her fifth season as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. This veteran of the hardwood brings wealth of experience, and her charged with tutoring the lady Lions backcourt.
In her tenure at UAPB, Brown produced the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year in Niya Head.
Brown begin her coaching career as a volunteer coach at William Sullivan High School in Durant, Miss.
The next season, Brown was named graduate assistant coach at Jackson State in Jackson, Miss., in the fall of the 2011. That season, the Lady Tigers recorded their first double-digit win season in three seasons. She remained at Jackson State until being name assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff prior to the 2012-13 season.
As a player Brown was a two-time Most Valuable Player in the Women’s Basketball at Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Miss., in 2009 and 2010.
In the 2008-09 season, she help lead the Devilettes to a 13-19 record and their third straight appearance in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament Semifinals.
In her final season at MVSU (2009-10) , Brown earned SWAC Player of the Week honors and received All-Tournament honors in the Georgia State Tournament.
Brown in her junior season at MVSU led the Devilettes in scoring, averaging 11.78 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
In her senior season of competition, Brown once again led the team in scoring averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.655 assists per game. She finished her career at MVSU scoring 756 points, pulling down 336 rebounds and dishing out 123 assists.
This Sallis, Miss., native holds a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Mississippi Valley State (2010) in Itta Bena, Miss. Brown holds three Masters degrees, she holds a Master of Sports Science from Jackson State (2012) and received two Masters degrees from Grand Canyon University in Business Administration and Science and Leadership in 2016.
