James L. Cowan, IV is entering his sixth season as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Before joining the UAPB Athletic staff, Cowan served as District Loss Specialist at Kroger and Assistant Tennis Coach at Epiphany Court (Tennis Academy) in Memphis, Tenn.
Cowan was named Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at UAPB in 2013. In his tenure at UAPB, Cowan’s women’s team made a SWAC Tournament appearance in the 2014 season as he had six players to earn All-Conference honors between the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams.
His women’s team attained the highest GPA in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2013 with a 3.7 cumulative grade point average.
Both his men’s and women’s team have won the NCAA Public Recognition Award with the women’s team winning the award four years straight (2013-2016) and the men winning the award in 201
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Cowan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Marketing from UAPB, where he graduated in 2010 with a 3.8 cumulative GPA in his major. Cowan was a four-year letter winner in tennis at UAPB from 2005-09. then he was named assistant tennis coach at UAPB in 2010.
