UAPB M4 Golden Girls

"Golden Girls” are a frontline dance team of the Marching Musical Machine of the Mid—South (M4). These ladies, since 1988, have upheld the tradition of electrifying the crowd with incomparable grace, talent and style . The squad, usually consisting of 8 to 12 dancers, performs at S.W.A.C. football games, Classics, basketball games, marching band contests, and special events along with M4. They can often be seen on B.E.T. during televised performances and some commercials. When these ladies are not performing they have the opportunity to share their dancing and leadership skills during various workshops, camps and clinics held for the public.

A Golden Girl shall provide a spirit-promoting service, be loyal, have high morals and standards, be a good example in and out of school, and develop self-discipline and confidence. She shall also have poise, good posture, and present a good appearance. Being a Golden Girl is an honor. In order to be as “good” as our tradition and history warrants, hard work and discipline are basic components of the program. A Golden Girl’s commitment is to both academics and the Golden Girl Organization.
 

 Purpose of Organization

 

·        To promote appropriate and good spirit.

·        To build better relationships between schools during athletic and other school events.

·        To develop good sportsmanship, self-confidence, and self discipline.

·        To promote leadership.

·        To encourage high morals and standards among its members.

·        To develop the ability to work as a part of a group in achieving common goals: TEAMWORK.

·        To represent the school and community in an exemplary manner, serving as a role model for appropriate behavior and citizenship.

·        To develop and maintain a very high standard of dance.

 

 

SELECTION AND ELIGIBILITY

 

Members are selected by an impartial panel of qualified judges and directors. All members must audition each year. The candidates will be judged on their appearance, poise, splits, kicks, dance ability, and showmanship. No score sheets will be distributed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Must have dance experience
  • Able to do the splits, kicks, front roll over, cart-wheel, toe-touch, leaps, and turns
  • Must have a 2.0 and above GPA to participate
  • Great attitude

Golden Girls

Being a “Golden Girl” is a privilege and honor. These ladies are usually the first the public will see of M4 and one shall provide a spirit –promoting service, be loyal, have high morals and standards, and provide great confidence. Our history and tradition has laid a strong foundation and in order to be just as good, hard work and discipline are basic components of this program. A “Golden Girl” commitment is to both academics and the “Gold Girl” dance line of the Marching Musical Machine of the Mid—South.
