Capping Off Excellence: UAPB Department of Athletics Sixth Consecutive Year with 3.0+ GPA

PINE BLUFF, AR.- For the sixth year running, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Athletics has made academic achievement a hallmark of its identity. The 2025–2026 academic year closed with the department posting a cumulative GPA of 3.310, continuing a streak of excellence that shows no signs of slowing down.

What began as a departmental goal has become a defining characteristic of Golden Lion athletics. Six consecutive years above a 3.0 cumulative GPA is not an accident. It is the result of a sustained, intentional commitment to developing scholar-athletes who compete at the highest level, both on the field and in the classroom.

"Academic success is a cornerstone of who we are at UAPB, and this continued achievement reflects the discipline, accountability, and support that define our department," said Chris Robinson, Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics. "Our scholar-athletes are committed to excellence in every area of their lives, and these results are a direct reflection of that commitment. We are proud of the culture we've built and remain focused on preparing our scholar-athletes for success well beyond their playing careers."

All 15 programs finished the year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, reflecting a culture of academic commitment that extends well beyond any single program. From football to golf, track and field to softball, the pursuit of academic excellence has become woven into the fabric of every program within the department.

The numbers tell the story across the board: 167 scholar-athletes carried cumulative GPAs above 3.0, while 196 scholar-athletes achieved term GPAs above 3.0 this year. Those figures represent hundreds of individual decisions made every semester to prioritize academics, attend tutoring sessions, meet with advisors, and put in the work long after practice ends.

"The expectation in this department is simple: compete at the highest level in your sport and in the classroom. Our scholar-athletes continue to rise to that challenge year after year," said Shon Pilcher, Associate AD for Academics.

Perhaps the most meaningful number from this academic year is 71. That is how many scholar-athletes crossed the graduation stage during the 2025–2026 academic year, earning their degrees and completing one of the most significant milestones of their lives.

For each of those 71 graduates, a diploma represents years of balancing early morning practices, road trips, film sessions, and competition schedules alongside coursework, exams, and academic deadlines. Their graduation is a testament not only to their personal resilience but to the support systems, academic staff, and coaches who held the standard high throughout their journey.

Six consecutive years of department-wide academic excellence speak to something larger than a single season or a single class of athletes. It reflects the identity that the UAPB Department of Athletics has been intentionally building over time, one that values the full development of the scholar-athlete.

As the department looks ahead, the foundation is firmly in place. The culture is established. The expectation is clear. And if the last six years are any indication, Golden Lion athletics will continue to set the standard for what it means to compete and achieve at the highest level.
