Prairie View, TX — The Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions split a doubleheader at Prairie View on Saturday, April 11, erupting for 22 runs in a dominant morning victory before surrendering a late lead in a 10–9 defeat in the nightcap. UAPB stands at 16–21 on the season heading into Sunday's series finale.
Game 1: UAPB 22, Prairie View 8
The Golden Lions put on one of their most complete offensive performances of the season in the opener, pounding the Panthers for 22 runs on 18 hits while drawing 10 walks. Prairie View was forced to cycle through seven pitchers and was undone by a relentless UAPB lineup that never let up.
Weston Gingerich led the charge, going 4-for-6 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, and an RBI. Nick Hockemeyer was equally productive at 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Aaron Grant contributed a solo home run in the seventh to break a 6–6 tie. Lazaro Alvarado put an exclamation point on the contest with a grand slam in the eighth inning — his second home run of the game — finishing with four RBI on the afternoon. Zach Wieder went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, and Matt Dworsky added a hit and an RBI after entering as a substitution behind the plate. Jose Vasquez and Blake Coleman each contributed a stolen base, while Ian Smith drew a key walk and drove in a run in the second inning.
The Golden Lions put the game out of reach with a 12-run eighth inning, an inning defined by six walks and five wild pitches from the Panthers' overwhelmed staff. Kenney Fabian earned the victory on the mound, working 5⅔ innings to improve to 2–3 on the season.
Game 2: Prairie View 10, UAPB 9
The Golden Lions could not complete the sweep in the afternoon, dropping a hard-fought 10–9 decision in a game that saw the lead change hands multiple times. UAPB trailed 7–4 heading into the sixth inning before mounting a five-run rally to take a 9–7 advantage, only to see the lead slip away in the eighth.
Matt Dworsky and Zach Wieder provided the offensive highlights, each belting a solo home run in the fifth inning to ignite the comeback. Ian Smith added an RBI single in the sixth and also swiped a base, while Jose Vasquez drove in a run on a fielder's choice during the same frame. Blake Coleman went 3-for-5 on the afternoon and reached base consistently throughout, and Wieder finished the day 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored across his plate appearances.
Joe King took the loss in relief, falling to 0–2 on the season. Jordan Medellin started in relief of Jack Hasten and worked 3⅓ innings before giving way to King in the seventh.
