PINE BLUFF, AR — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions opened their final home series in dominant fashion, shutting out Jackson State 5–0 at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
Kenny Fabian was untouchable on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout. The right-hander gave up just six hits, struck out five, and didn't walk a single batter in a 9-inning gem.
At the plate,
Vinny Saumell led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance and two runs scored.
Jesus Riera added two hits—including a double—and drove in a run, while
Kentavious Veal and
Trinidad DeLaGarza each tallied key RBIs. Veal and DeLaGarza also swiped a base apiece, adding to the pressure on the JSU defense.
UAPB scored in the 2nd, added two more in the 4th, and tacked on two insurance runs in the 8th to cruise to victory.
With the win, the Golden Lions improve to 13-9 in SWAC play and return to action tomorrow for Game 2 of the series.
First pitch is set for 3:00 PM as UAPB looks to take the series.
