DEER PARK, Texas --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions softball team came up big on the road and defeated Texas Southern Tigers by the score of 3-2 to clinch the weekend series.
Sophomore Kayla Adams got the win out of the bullpen for UAPB. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up one unearned run on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out seven.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were paced by Adams who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple. Senior Kaitlyn Neely put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Janai Mathis also contributed for UAPB, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. UAPB scored twice, with one run coming across on Mathis' single.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Lady Lions offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. UAPB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Neely, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 3-0. Texas Southern put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UAPB still held on for the 3-2 win.
