PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --The UAPB Golden Lions put together a spirited comeback, scoring three runs over the eighth and ninth innings, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 9-8 to the Alabama State Hornets Friday.
Senior Brant Voth came out of the bullpen for UAPB and took the loss.
At the plate, the Golden Lions were paced by senior Carlos Rodriguez, who went 3-for-6 on the day with two RBI. Senior Vinny Saumell put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Senior Jesus Riera also contributed for UAPB, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions lost despite scoring in six different innings in the ballgame, last holding the lead in the seventh inning at 4-3. UAPB's biggest output came in its two-run eighth inning.
