CHICAGO, Ill. – Quion Williams delivered the biggest shot of the night, knocking down the go-ahead basket with 15 seconds left to lift the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team to a 63–62 road victory over the UIC Flames on Wednesday evening.
Williams was spectacular across the board, finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals, and three blocks to lead three Golden Lions in double figures.
UAPB's ball movement was a difference-maker, as the team recorded 19 assists on 25 made field goals, a strong 76 percent assist rate, with Williams leading the way.
Defensively, the Golden Lions locked in, holding UIC to just 12.5 percent from three-point range and 34.9 percent shooting overall, while forcing 17 turnovers and swatting 12 shots as a team.
How It Happened
After falling behind 2–0 early, the Golden Lions responded with a 7–0 run, capped by a Williams basket at the 19:01 mark to take a 7–2 lead. UAPB controlled the remainder of the first half, using five made three-pointers to build a 35–26 halftime advantage.
UIC surged in the second half, eventually taking a 58–53 lead. But the Golden Lions answered with a 9–0 run, punctuated by a Payton jumper to reclaim a 62–58 lead with 2:02 remaining. The Flames fought back to make it a one-point game, but Williams' late free throw sealed the victory as UAPB held strong in the closing seconds.
UAPB dominated the interior, scoring 16 of its 28 second-half points in the paint.
