Baton Rouge, LA - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff bounced back from a two-run loss on Friday to claim the series over Southern.
GAME 1
The Golden Lions broke through after a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning to defeat the Southern Jaguars 17-8 Saturday in game two of a three-game series
Jaxson Lucas picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UAPB. The right-hander went three innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. UAPB scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Jakobi Jackson.
The Jaguars then tied the ballgame at three before the Golden Lions came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. UAPB picked up two runs when a single from Carlos Rodriguez-Velez brought home Jalyn Williams and Gavin Terry, which brought the Golden Lions lead to 5-3.
Southern fired back to even the ballgame at five before UAPB reclaimed an 11-5 advantage in the eighth inning. The Golden Lions bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Darrius Brown.
UAPB held the Jaguars scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Golden Lions scored six runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Donovan Noble, bringing the UAPB advantage to 17-5. Southern put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still coasted to the 17-8 win.

UAPB Golden Lions fought back from down 5-4 in the sixth inning to knock off the Southern Jaguars 11-6 Sunday.
Jaedon Willis started on the mound and picked up the win for UAPB. The right-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing six walks and striking out two. Jordan Jones also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Lions, throwing 4.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Gavin Terry came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB and get them on the board.
The Jaguars then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead before the Golden Lions got back on the board in the fourth. UAPB scored twice on Nauden's two-run homer, which tightened the Jaguars lead to 4-3.
UAPB kept the Jaguars off the board before rallying to tie it up at four in the fifth. The Golden Lions recorded a run on Williams' RBI double.
The Jaguars broke the tie and grabbed the lead heading into the seventh inning, when UAPB got back on the scoreboard. The Golden Lions scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Ben VanMaanen, bringing the UAPB advantage to 9-5.
The Golden Lions held Southern scoreless before expanding their lead to 11-5 the following inning. UAPB picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Nauden. Southern put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still coasted to the 11-6 win.
