PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell short in a 62-48 loss to the North Alabama Lions at home Sunday.

The Lady Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Janiyah Tucker, who had 14 points and five steals. Kristyna Boyd added 12 points and Nadiyah Byard added four points and eight rebounds.

Led by Byard's six offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in four second chance points.

UAPB forced 21 North Alabama turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Sunday's game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Tucker's five steals led the way for UAPB.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 13-9.

The Lady Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-17 halftime deficit.

North Alabama continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 46-27 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 46-32 with 1:41 to go in the third. North Alabama countered and stretched its lead to 50-32 heading into the fourth. UAPB took advantage of four North Alabama turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of takeaways.

North Alabama kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 55-36 advantage before UAPB went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 55-44 with 2:51 to go in the contest. North Alabama responded and outscored the Lady Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 62-48. UAPB took advantage of 10 North Alabama turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of those takeaways.
