GRAMBLING, Louisiana --Junior Ben VanMaanen put together an outstanding outing at the plate Saturday, hitting two homers, but the UAPB Golden Lions fell to the Grambling Tigers 15-11 Saturday evening at Wilbert Ellis Field. VanMaanen blasted three homeruns in the first two games of the series.
Senior Jacob Riordan got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss.
VanMaanen went 3-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with four RBIs. Junior Lawrence Noble added to VanMaanen's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-4 with a triple along with one walk. Junior Brad Mican also chipped in for the Golden Lions, going 1-for-4 with a walk and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions lost despite scoring in six different innings in the ballgame, last holding the lead in the first inning at 1-0. UAPB's biggest output came in its four-run ninth inning. The big hit for the Golden Lions in the inning was a two-run single off the bat of VanMaanen.
