#UAPBBaseball Comes Up Short To Prairie View A&M In Doubleheader

Game 1: Prairie View A&M 6    UAPB 5

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --
The Golden Lions took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 6-5 to the Prairie View A&M Panthers Saturday.

Senior Andre Greene took the loss on the mound for UAPB.

At the plate, the Golden Lions were paced by junior Edwin DeLaCruz, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Junior Brad Mican put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Senior JaKobi Jackson also contributed for UAPB, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Lions were trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. UAPB scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of DeLaCruz.

The score stayed at 2-2 until the very next inning, when the Golden Lions put runs on the scoreboard once again. UAPB's offense had a good inning, putting three runs on the scoreboard, which brought the Golden Lions lead to 5-2. The Golden Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Prairie View A&M scored four times over the remaining three innings to grab the 6-5 win.

Game 2: Prairie View A&M 5   UAPB 2

UAPB put together a valiant effort on Saturday, but ultimately came up short, losing to the Prairie View A&M Panthers by the score of 5-2.

Senior Brandon Little started and took the loss on the mound for UAPB. Junior Jacob Ehling was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.

In the batter's box, the Golden Lions were paced by senior JaKobi Jackson, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Lions put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Jackson came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB and get them on the board.

The Panthers then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-1 lead before the Golden Lions got back on the board in the eighth. UAPB scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Jackson, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Panthers. The Golden Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

The Golden Lions will hit the road for a midweek game, Tuesday, March 28 against the University of Memphis.  The pitch is set for 6 p.m.
