PINE BLUFF, AR - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team held its first full practice of the new academic year this week.
The Lady Lions finished last season 18-16 (13-3) to break records of most home wins and conference wins in school history and make their second consecutive SWAC Tournament semi-finals appearance.
They have high hopes for their 2022 campaign under the direction of head coach Gabrielle Floyd who is entering her 1st year with the program.
"It was a very positive first day. I was pleased with the effort and energy from our ladies," coach Floyd recapping the first practice. "We don't have full access to the team in the summertime, so they're accountable for keeping themselves in shape before returning to campus. We had little expectation for the first day, but they've exceeded that so far."
UAPB returns more than half of the roster from a season ago, and Kaila Robinson has been the veteran to push the team in every aspect.
"Her energy is just a gift," coach Floyd said about the former SWAC Newcomer of the Year. "It's become contagious to where her energy gives the team a boost to pick up one another. From encouraging and motivating each other, the energy is positive all the way around."
