Pine Bluff, AR --Sophomore Andrew Duran dominated on Friday, striking out 12 Mississippi Valley St. hitters over nine innings of work, but it was not enough as the UAPB Golden Lions lost to the Delta Devils 2-1 in game one of a three-game series at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
In addition to his 12 strikeouts, Duran (0-2) went nine innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits and walking two for UAPB (0-6).
In the batter's box, the Golden Lions were led by junior Brandon Simon, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Junior Andre Greene compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Lions were trailing 2-0 in the ninth inning when they first put runs on the board. UAPB got an RBI single from Simon, scoring sophomore Dylan Jutze from second base. The Golden Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
