NEW ORLEANS, La. --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team came up short in its season opener against New Orleans Privateers, 9-3, on Friday at the MLB Andre Dawson Classic at Maestri Field.
Sophomore Andrew Duran (0-1) got the ball to start for UAPB (0-1) and took the loss.
At the plate, the Golden Lions were led by sophomore Dylan Jutze, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and two RBIs. Junior Timothy Martin put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Golden Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UAPB got an RBI single from Jutze, scoring sophomore Dante Leach from second base.
The Privateers expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Golden Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. UAPB brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Jutze's single, which tightened the Privateers lead to 8-3. The Golden Lions were unable to get any closer, as New Orleans added one run to their tally on the way to a 9-3 final.

» UAPB's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed two runs across.
» UAPB pitchers faced 42 New Orleans hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out six.
