Prairie View, TX. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball dropped a pair of games in conference play versus Prairie View A&M Saturday at the Tankersly Field.
GAME 1: Prairie View A&M 8 UAPB 1
The Panthers got off to a fast start in game one over the Golden Lions, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. UAPB was able to add a run in the top of the fourth before Prairie View A&M added six runs in the last three innings to clinch game one.
Senior Nick Kreutzer led UAPB at the plate, going 2-for-4, followed by freshman Lawrence Noble going 1-for-3 with one RBI. Freshman Dante Leach and junior Kacy Higgins added one hit apiece for UAPB.
GAME 2: Prairie View A&M 11 UAPB 8
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning before the Golden Lions responded in the top of the third inning. Noble walked and advanced to second with a single through the right side by Leach. A passed ball by the catcher would move the runners up before Kreutzer would come up big and singled to right center scoring Noble and Leach to cut the lead to two (4-2).
The Golden Lions kept the pressure on the Panthers, which would result in Kreutzer reaching second on an error by the second baseman before Junior Humberto Maldonado doubled to right center scoring Kreutzer and junior Andrew Enwiya, who reached earlier on an error to tie the game at 4-4.
The Panthers would jump out to an 11-5 lead going into the top of the ninth inning before UAPB would rally to add three runs, but it was not enough in the comeback.
Leach led the Golden Lions at the plate, going 4-for-5 with an RBI, followed by Kreutzer going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Maldonado going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
UAPB will be back in action for the series finale today at 1 p.m.
