#UAPBBaseball Split Doubleheader With Texas Southern

Pine Bluff, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team split Saturday's SWAC Conference doubleheader with Texas Southern 11-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex at Bill Jones Field.  
 
GAME 1: Texas Southern 11 UAPB 2
 
The Golden Lions struck first in the bottom of the first inning, when junior Humberto Maldonado doubled to right-center, scoring junior Kacy Higgins to give UAPB a 1-0 lead. 
 
Texas Southern responded, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth and fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead before adding five runs in the top of the ninth to clinch game one.  
 
Maldonado led UAPB at the plate going 1-for-4 with an RBI.  
 

GAME 2: UAPB  3 Texas Southern 2 
 
In game two, UAPB responded with graduate senior Tony Horn Jr. picking up his first save of the year in a Golden Lions uniform.  
 
With Texas Southern taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Golden Lions roared back in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game, 1-1, with a single by Higgins, scoring junior Timothy Martin, who reached earlier with a walk.  
 
Junior Andrew Enwiya gave UAPB a 2-1 lead with a double to right-center, scoring Higgins in the bottom of the sixth inning before Texas Southern would manage a run at the top of the seventh inning tying the game at 2-2.
 
UAPB would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning with bases loaded to walk Higgins, scoring sophomore DeClaudio Irvin.  
 
Higgins led UAPB at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, followed by Enwiya going 1-for-4 with an RBI.  
 
Junior Brandon Little started the game pitching 5.1 IP giving up two hits, striking out three. Junior Justin Rieschick picked up the win for the Golden Lions as Horn closed out the game. 
 
The Golden Lions will be back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. in the rubber match at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
