Following last week's open date, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team will return to action Saturday in a noon game at Grambling.
The UAPB Sports Network radio broadcast begins at 11:30 a.m. on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com/live, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
Just as February's snow event in Arkansas caused the rescheduling of the Feb. 27 UAPB home game vs. Texas Southern, the same weather caused the postponement of the GSU – Prairie View game in Dallas on the same date. The freezing temperatures caused pipes to burst at the legendary Cotton Bowl, forcing the rescheduling of the game to March 13.
The Tigers (0-2 overall, 0-2 SWAC) have played back-to-back weekends in March, losing both contests by a touchdown or less. GSU fell at home to Jackson State 33-28 on March 6 before losing to Prairie View 17-10 last Saturday in a game played in Arlington, Texas.
On the season, QB Geremy Hickbottom has completed 35 of 51 passes for 350 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, and as also rushed for a touchdown. RBs CJ Russell (22 carries, 86 yards) and Lyndemian Brooks (15 carries, 75 yards) led the ground attack last week against the Panthers. Darrell Clark (14 receptions, 166 yards, one touchdown) leads GSU in receiving and has caught the lone receiving TD for the Tigers this season.
Defensively, DB Kenan Fontenot leads Grambling in tackles (19) along with two pass breakups and one forced fumble. LBs Lewis Matthews (17 tackles) and Bryan Powell (16 tackles) each have one sack, as the unit has combined for force five turnovers (four fumble recoveries, one interception).
