The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team fell to Eastern Illinois 9-2 Wednesday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex at Bill Jones Field.
The Golden Lions wasted no time getting on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when
Kacy Higgins tripled to left field, and then scored on a
Brandon Simon ground out to give UAPB a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers responded, however, scoring six runs in the top of the fourth inning and two in the six inning to take an 8-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
UAPB kept clawing, scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh, starting with back-to-back walks to
Dalton Smead and Jackson Rekhow. Smead advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a wild pitch to give the Golden Lions their second run of the game at 8-2.
Eastern Illinois added one run in the top of the eighth inning for the final margin.
Braelin Hence and
Andrew Szalkowski both led the Golden Lions at the plate going 2-for-4. Sophomore
Brandon Simon had tallied an RBI.
