Baseball Falls To Alcorn St.

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team fell to Alcorn St. 13-7 on the final day of the Andre Dawson Classic at Maestri Field. 

After both teams went scoreless in the first two innings, the Golden Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Senior Andrew Krzeminski started the third inning with a double down the left field line, and would eventually score on the next at-bat with a single by sophomore Braelin Hence to give UAPB a 1-0 lead.  Junior Jarficur Parker then doubled to left-center, advancing Hence to third.

Hence would on to score to give UAPB a 2-0 lead on a ground out RBI by senior Nick Kreutzer.  Junior Humberto Maldonado kept the rally going with a single to left-center, scoring Parker to increase the lead to 3-0. 

The Braves would go on to get on the board in the top of the fourth before UAPB responded in the bottom of the fourth.  The Golden Lions would load the bases with singles by sophomore, Brandon Simon, Krzeminski, and junior Kacy Higgins, before Hence came up big with a line drive single to right field, scoring Simon and Krzeminski to go up 5-1.

Alcorn St. would go on to score seven unanswered runs in the next two innings to take an 8-5 lead. The Golden Lions started another rally in the bottom of the seventh inning when Higgins singled to right field.  After a wild pitch advancing Higgins to second, Kreutzer doubled to right field to score Higgins to cut the Braves lead to two, 8-6. Maldonado kept the momentum going with a single to left field, scoring Kreutzer to cut the lead to one, 8-7. 

The Braves would go on to add six runs in the last two innings for the final margin. 


Hence led the Golden Lions at the plate going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, followed by Maldonado going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Kreuter also added to RBIs for UAPB.

The Golden Lions will be back in action Tuesday as the team travels to Waco, Texas to face Baylor at 6:30 p.m.
