Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls By One At Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TX.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team gave Texas Southern all it could handle on Monday night and then some. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions came up short against the Lady Tigers 78-77 at the Health and Physical Education Arena.

At the start of the game, the Lady Lions kept it close, starting the second quarter down 19-16, before the Lady Tigers gained momentum and went into intermission with a 47-31 lead.   After being down 18 points to start the third quarter, UAPB went on a 28-12 run to take the lead at (77-76) with a three-pointer by junior Trasity Totten with 13 seconds left in the game.

The Lady Tigers would go on to score the game-winning basket in the final seconds to sneak out with the win.UAPB had four players score in double figures, led by senior Kyeonia Harris, who had 20 points and two steals. Totten added 14 points off of the bench, senior Noe'll Taylor chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals, and junior Jayla Atmore added 11 points and five steals.

The Lady Lions took advantage of great ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 11 assists on 25 made field goals. UAPB did a great job disrupting Texas Southern shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Freshman Nissa Sam-Grant, who's third in the conference in blocks, led the way individually for the Lady Lions with two rejections.

"I'm excited for these young ladies, how they fought back," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown. "We talked about it at halftime to take the scoreboard out of the game and continue to execute. I don't know what it is about playing on Mondays, and it seems as if they turn on the lights ready to play. We took the lead late in the game with a big shot by Totten down the stretch, which was good. But overall, I'm proud of how they crashed the boards and limited them to one shot."

The Lady Lions return to action Saturday when they host Grambling St. for High School Day at 5 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
