7/14/2019 2:00:00 PM

PINE BLUFF, AR. Time management is an important skill to have for student-athletes who must balance both their specific sports and their academic coursework.  For the three former student-athletes who participated in the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff School of Nursing, this skill got put to the test every day, as they got the opportunity to gain professional experience in the medical field, while also being an NCAA Division I athlete.

In the 2019 graduate class, UAPB had five students to graduate from the nursing program and passed the Arkansas State Nursing Exam, three of them were Golden Lion Student-Athletes.

The graduates were Malaik Muhammad (Women's Basketball/ Women's Tennis), Cierra Fenwick (Soccer/ Women's Tennis), and Karissa Fenwick (Soccer/ Women's Tennis).

"We are so proud of the first time success our student-athletes achieved," said Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, Kimberly Evans.  "It shows great discipline in the classroom and on the playing surface for our athletes here at UAPB.  Also, they have moved from RN to BSN and now are prepared to move into expanded nursing roles in patient care, leadership, community health, and entry into the graduate program of nursing."

According to the school of nursing here on the campus at UAPB, C. Fenwick, K. Fenwick, and Muhammad were the first student-athletes to come through the program since the revamping of the school of nursing program six years ago.
