GRAMBLING La. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team lost 5-4 in 10 innings Saturday at Jones Park / Ellis Field.
Justin Robinson and
Larry Sims each had two hits.
Carlos Benoit pitched 6 2/3 strong innings, yielding only three hits and one run, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Trailing 1-0 after six innings, UAPB tied the game in the seventh. With one out,
Nick Kreutzer doubled inside the right field line. With two outs, a
Larry Sims single up the middle scored Kreutzer to tie the score.
The Golden Lions took the lead in the eighth.
Ricardo Sanchez walked to lead off the inning, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Justin Robinson's single up the middle scored Sanchez to give UAPB the lead. Robinson then stole second, moved to third on a throwing error at the base, then scored on an errant throw form the outfield on the same play to give the Golden Lions a 3-1 lead.
After Grambling scored three in the home half of the inning to regain the lead, the Lions roared back to tie it in the ninth. Kreutzer walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on
Bryce Roesch's single to right. With two outs, Sanchez' single to right scored pinch-runner
Davion White with the tying run.
GSU scored the winning run on a passed ball with two outs in the 10
th.
The final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
