Baseball Comeback Falls Just Short in 5-4 Loss to Abilene Christian

Abilene, TX. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team lost a thrilling game on Friday night to Abilene Christian Wildcats by a score of 5-4 at Crutcher Scott Field.  The game featured two lead changes and a combined 14 runners left on base between the two teams.

The Golden Lions (1-4) scored three times in the top of the third inning off two consecutive walks with Andrew Szalkowski and Jarficur Parker on first and second with no outs.  Senior Ryan Mallison triple down right field line, scoring Parker and Szallkowski, Sergio Esparza would come up and double to right center, scoring Mallison to put UAPB up 3-0.  

In the bottom of the third inning, the Wildcats (2-3) scored three runs to tie the game at 3-3.  After Dalton Dunn led off with a walk and scored off a fielder choice, Abilene Christian was back into the game, scoring two more runs.

The Wildcats took the lead plating two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.   In the top of the eight, the Golden Lions battle back after being down two runs.  Braelin Hence enter the game to pinch run, then would steal second and scored off a double to left field by Ricardo Sanchez to cut the lead to one (5-4), but it was not enough as the Wildcats clinched game one of the three-game series.

Peyton Burks picked up the loss for UAPB going five innings with four strike outs.

The Golden Lions will return to action for game two on Saturday, Feb. 23, first pitch is set for 2 P.M.
