MIAMI, Fla. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions fell to the Florida International University Panthers by the score of 55-9 at Riccardo Silva Stadium in non-conference action. Junior transfer running back and Florida native
Taeyler Porter rushed for a game-high 137 yards. This is the third time this season that he eclipsed the 100-yard mark as he is currently ranked second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in yards per game.
"My hat goes off to the FIU program," said UAPB Head Coach
Cedric Thomas. "Coach Davis has done a good job. I played him last year when I was at Alcorn State and he has a very good team; they are fundamentally sound. That's the way it's supposed to be and for me that's how I want my program to be."
Freshman quarterback and New Orleans native
Skyler Perry completed 12-for-19 passes for 106 yards. Redshirt sophomore tight end and Ruston native
Jeremy Brown caught three passes for 64 yards including a marvelous 41-yard reception and was inches from the goal line before fumbling out of the back of the end zone which resulted in a touchback for the Panthers.
Preseason FCS All-America punter
Jamie Gillan kicked a career-high 80 yard punt and also added three field goals. Gillan connected on kicks from 37, 45 and 31 yards in the loss. He also converted on a fake punt on fourth down and seven, resulting in a 33-yard scamper to open the fourth quarter. The 80 yard punt is a UAPB school record. The previous record was held by Byron White who kicked a 76-yard yard punt against Lane College in 1997.
Freshman linebacker and Shreveport native
Tychristopher Harris led the Golden Lions with six total tackles while teammate and Shreveport native
A.C. Gilliam chipped in with five tackles.
