PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions dominated the match from start to finish with a dominant 9-0 victory over Alcorn State University at Pumphrey Stadium in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The win marks the first victory of the season for the Lady Lions as well as the first career victory as UAPB head coach for Dr.
Ted Flogaites. Senior
Rebecca Holmes finished the game with a hat trick (three goals).
"It's definitely what we needed to finish off this weekend coming off the tie against Valley," said Holmes. "Before today we didn't have a win this season and we didn't score a lot of goals, so it was great to have a game like this to go into next weekend when we go to D.C. I thought we had a good start in today's game, then we slowed down a bit, but towards the end we picked it up again."
In the third minute of the match, Holmes found the back of the net with a beautiful header off of a service from
Shannon Seymour. Two minutes later, Holmes scored another goal, this time off of a pass from senior
Karissa Fenwick. In the eighth minute of the match, senior
Tyler Babb buried one in the back of the net off of a pass from Seymour to give UAPB a 3-0 lead in less than 10 minutes.
In the 16th minute of the contest, Babb found K. Fenwick for another goal. In the 25th minute, Seymour struck a ball towards the goal when Alcorn State defender Gemma Dunn attempted to clear the ball, but ended up scoring an own goal (OG) to give the Lady Lions a 5-0 lead in the first half.
In the second half,
Cierra Fenwick found the back of the net in the 55th minute to give UAPB a 6-0 lead. In the 71st minute, Holmes completed the hat trick with another goal that was assisted by Seymour. In the 77th minute, Holmes returned the favor with an assist to Seymour for another UAPB goal. C. Fenwick added yet another goal in the 79th minute off of a corner kick from Babb to complete the victory.

Alcorn goalkeeper Kameran Proby finished with a game-high 14 saves in the loss.Â
